Back in March 2019, AHREFs announced they were working on a new search engine, as reported by Search Engine Journal.
In August, 2021, AIN reported that they had already invested $40 million into it.
On Friday, TechCrunch announced that they have now invested $60 million into creating their new search engine, which is called Yep.
The wait is finally over and you can use their new search engine now.
You can find their new search engine here.
Yep: A Search Engine For Creators
Yep’s About Page describes in more detail its origins and purpose, including the SEO industry shortcomings that they hope to correct:
We’ve all gotten used to a search model that’s arguably unfair. A model where paywalls and affiliate links have insidiously become part of the search experience.
Yep is our answer to this.
Our mission is to go back to the basics: supporting good content.
We offer an unbiased, private search experience that rewards and compensates the makers behind the content. To do this, we use a 90/10 profit share business model where we pay 90% of advertising profits directly to these makers.
Simply put, when you use Yep, you’re directly putting money in the pockets of your favorite content creators.”
Realistic Competition Against Google?
Clearly, having a company like AHREFs to stack itself against Google is a good thing. This means that Google can no longer own the marketplace, and has more competition.
And this could also mean that creators will have more options to use outside of the corporate giant.
AHREFs says that it has more than 1,000 servers already, and has the capability to store more than 100 petabytes of data. (for those of our readers who don’t know: a petabyte is 1,024 terabytes, or 1 million gigabytes).
Who knows where the new AHREFs search engine is going to take this industry a year from now?
We are excited to see great leaders in the SEO field take the next step forward in the evolution of search.
And who knew it would be AHREFs?
