One SEO professional asked John during a hangout about their Indian websites. More specifically, how to get more traffic.
They are working on a website that is based in India, and they get leads from all over India. They can also provide their services all over the world.
First, however, being in India, they want to rank their service pages in the USA to get more leads from the USA.
And they are wondering if John can give them some information about how they can rank on top of their competition in the USA.
They have already done off page changes, including changes on-site such as in the user experience and content structure, according to the U.S. region.
What else can they do to start ranking on the US service pages that they have created?
They also explained that they are an SEO agency, and they only provide SEO services. So, they need to start getting leads from the US region, based in India.
John answered that the one thing they need to watch out for is geotargeting. If they are going from a country-specific website to something that is more global, then the competition changes entirely.
It may be the case that in India, you just rank really well for certain queries, and then in the United States, the competition is much, much stronger for those queries.
This happens at approximately the 23:14 mark in the video.

Yeah, Hi, John. Currently, I’m working on a website that is based in India, and we get leads from all over India. As we can provide our services all over the world. But firstly, being in India, I want to rank my service pages in the USA to get more leads from there. So can you help me know what all things I can do so that I can rank on top of my competitors that are even in the USA. I have already done free off page, changed the UI/UX and content structure, according to the US region. So what more can I do to start ranking on the US service pages that I have created?
John 23:48
Yeah. It’s hard to say without knowing your website…

It’s actually an SEO agency, that we all provide only SEO services. So we need to start getting leads from the US region, based in India.

Yeah. So usually, the the thing that that I think you you need to watch out for is on the one hand geotargeting, in that if you’re going from a country specific website to something that is more global, then it helps to make sure that from from a technical point of view, your website is available for that. So in particular, something like using a generic top level domain instead of a country specific top level domain, that can help.
The other thing to also keep in mind is that anytime, when you go from a country level website to a global level website, that the competition just changes completely. And it might be the case that, for example, in India, you’re ranking really well for these queries, but In the US, the competition is just so much stronger that even that really well level from India doesn’t translate to something that is reasonable in the US.
And that’s kind of I think, like, like you’ve probably seen from SEO is not something that you can just fix with technical issues, you really have to kind of work on that for the long run, to make sure that your website is actually much, much stronger, and that people kind of see it also as something, I don’t know, relevant for them in their country. And I don’t think there’s like one, one technical trick that you can do to make that happen.
