In a surprising twist of events, iContact has acquired Moz.
One can’t help but wonder if this was an acquisition that the leadership was hoping for.
For one, iContact is owned by J2 Global. We are of the opinion that most companies owned by J2 Global are not of the same caliber as Moz.
Secondly, we have not thus far been impressed with iContact’s offerings in terms of software.
In fact, Moz has consistently been a massive SEO industry leader, eclipsing Semrush and AHREFs. We don’t see iContact as being on the same level, let alone existing within the same sphere of influence as Moz.
We think it more likely should have been the other way around: Moz acquiring iContact.
It’s one of those things where you just think…couldn’t Moz have done better? In many ways, yes. Perhaps they could have been acquired by Semrush or AHREFs.

Why is This Important?
Moz is a massive leader in the SEO industry, with a toolset used by SEO professionals worldwide. While organic search and email marketing are the two channels most commonly utilized for link building outreach, we still have reservations about iContact when compared to Moz. We really mean that. Moz is an industry leader. iContact is just…meh.
We think that a better deal could have been reached with a tool company like Semrush or AHREFs. An acquisition of that caliber would better preserve Moz’s industry standing.
But either way, we wish Moz and iContact the absolute best on the new acquisition and hope that everything goes well.
When it comes to company takeovers, this is not always the case and sometimes things don’t always happen with the best outcome, despite everyone involved having good intentions.
